Description
The Spoil Island Project, managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserves Office, aims to provide recreational opportunities on spoil islands throughout Florida's Treasure and Space Coast regions while preserving and enhancing ecological function. Spoil islands are artificial islands created from dredged material during channel dredging to promote boating and commerce. The project focuses on recreation islands managed by IRLAP and encourages community involvement through volunteering, adopting islands, and donations.
